Love is nothing special:@
- Justin Timberlake, May 30th, 2008 July 1, 2007 - Jonti, July 1st, 2007 Saw the play for the second time tonight. Well written play and very well directed in this production. The director was not afraid to take long moments of silence where the emotions of the actors came through. This was especially evident in the Christmas scene. - JESSE, June 29th, 2007 Just saw the play. I really did enjoy it! Actors were wonderful. What a cool ending to this somewhat heart-wrenching story. Bravo! - BMG, June 28th, 2007 I have seen the show four times and am expecting a fifth viewing. Not just because of the spectacular view of the handsome men onstage, but also because Lemieux and Ryen's chemistry has grown stronger with each show giving Guy and Doug's relationship such spark and real passion. I've been excited to see the show evolve and it has truly become such an enjoying and honest production. Even as a straight woman, I can still see my own experiences of love's disappointment and joy in the story. Tears came to my eyes when Doug left Guy's apartment abruptly at Christmas time with an awkward "thanks for the gift". That moment reminded me of a personal experience and it really tugged at my heart. This is not just a show for the gay male community. Mauriello's story is for all and one not to be missed. Cheers and thank you to the Just Say Love team and I look forward to my next visit!! - Sara Phelps, June 24th, 2007 I just saw the play last night. IT was very well crafted and the acting was superb. James Ryen was particularly good. They both conveyed the eroticism of the first scenes and the love which developed later as tender and caring. Michael Lemieux's monologue about his father brought tears to my eyes probably because true reconciliation never happened with my father. The minimalist set was a genius. I go to Second Story Theater in Warren, RI which most often uses a similar set design theory. My only criticism of the play is that it ended too soon and the transition of Doug to lover was too quick. More angst in the relationship would have been better and more believable. The advertising was too limited and the critique displayed on the wall did not do the play any justice. In the future have someone contact Prime Timers about gay plays. We are a group of gay men over 50. I recommended this play to them but after the last meeting. - Richard H. York, June 23rd, 2007 Sorry, Mr. Mauriello, the correct title, I just noticed, s/b "Just Say Love" - Bob Frazier, June 4th, 2007 Having seen James Ryen recently at the Lyric and Speakeasy, I have become a big fan. Excellent actor with "matinee idol" looks. With his charisma, he could have a future as a film star, I believe. looking forward to seeing him again in "Just in Love" - Bob Frazier , June 4th, 2007 I love the universal message of "Just Say Love." The language and the production moved me so much when I saw it the first time. Everytime I see it, I experience and learn something new. "Just Say Love," is a really special play...congratulations. Love, Sharon - Sharon Stevens, May 25th, 2007 I give "Just Say Love" an A+, David! Great new venue, and your cast ...HOT! Are those writing genes hereditary? Hope so ... loved the dialogue the first time I saw the play. My inside track tells me it's even better. Way to go! - Annie G, May 19th, 2007 Having seen an earlier production, this casting appears to be a bold step toward a successful production run. David. best of wishes, - Larry J, May 12th, 2007 Actors, very handsome. Can't wait to see play. - MLuongo, May 11th, 2007
I saw the play last night (closing night) & enjoyed it. Wish I could have seen it earlier in the run with Jonathan playing Doug, for comparison, although James did a great job as well. Looking forward to future plays by David. Break a Leg as you continue on tour with it.
Both actors did the roles justice, although I must confess I was partial to James Ryen after seeing his terrific performance in the play FAT PIG several months earlier. Michael Lemieux, the other half of this acting duo was believable as the philosophic vegetarian.
The use of props was kept to a minimum and the audience was called upon to use their imagination as the two actors mimed such things as a baby, a cat, and a painting.
Kudos to all, and to the playwright David Mauriello. I had the pleasure of speaking with him both nights and his interest in the production, the actors, and the future of this piece were evident. Best wishes for its tranfer (with a different cast and director) to Chicago.
Love,
Ann
